Introducing: The London Police


There is something truly magical about seeing a large scale mural on the side of a building with larger than life characters. Street art has the power to rejuvenate neighborhoods, as was the case for The London Police (TLP) when they decided to make the streets of Amsterdam their first canvas back in 1998. Many members have joined and left since the group's inception, but the founding members, Chaz Barrisson and Bob Gibson remain the heart and soul of TLP. Both Chaz and Bob grew up in Essex in the UK, Bob studied sculpture in school and Chaz studied photography. Throwbacks: Nuvango does Wayhome


School may have started and summer festivals have ended, but there’s still sunshine and festivals happening well into October. Festival season never has to end. A month ago I (Brianna, Communications Coordinator here at Nuvango and musician) was able to check out WayHome and bring a little Nuvango with me. It’s safe to say the festival’s sophomore year was a sweltering success. Nothing like spending the hottest weekend in the summer with your best pals surrounded by art and music. I’ve always thought of music festivals as somewhat of a playground… for adults. Everyone is stranded on this field filled with food, art, and music for three straight days. They Came, They Saw, They Conquered!


It’s not everyday that 60+ teenage girls descend upon your studio dressed to impress and sporting tiaras and sashes. StoriaPR contacted us to support Miss Teenage Canada as part of their Toronto tour and national competition. The goal of their Nuvango visit - to introduce these young women to mentors in leadership, entrepreneurship and maker positions.  The morning kicked off with all of the Delegates meeting a few of their tour guides: Hillary Sampliner / Director of Fashion Design, Conni Zarifis / Fashion Designer, Brianna Bordihn / Communications Coordinator, me (Dawn Laing / Director of Communications and Marketing), and Wilma (Studio Dog and official Nuvango cuddler). Drinks were had, tails were shaken, art was appreciated and photos were taken. #TBT to last week when we launched our latest experiential exhibition FSTVL SZN with photographer TheSuperManiak. 250 guests were invited to enter the festival grounds and the first Eventbrite RSVPs to arrive received special festival survival kits (with gifts from Indie88) along with their festival wristbands. Guests could take a seat on a cooler, the picnic table, or on the lawn and take in the emotive festival experience Maria TheSuperManiak conjures up for gallery goers.   Opening night featured music curated and performed by David Matisse (of Keys N Krates).
