A passionate art lover and trained designer, Hillary has been working with Nuvango since 2015 first as an associate designer and moving her way up to Fashion Director in 2016. Hillary brings a new aesthetic to Nuvango that combines the aesthetic of an artist with practical design to create stand out collections.
Hillary studied at Ryerson University graduating in 2010 with the Alfred Sung creative design award. Getting her footing in high fashion, Hillary moved to Amsterdam to apprentice under Iris van Herpen, learning the ins and outs of the couture world and participating in Paris Couture Fashion Week in the spring of 2013. After six months in Amsterdam, Hillary moved to London to pursue an opportunity with Mary Katrantzou where she realized her passion for digital printing, inspiring much of the work she does today at Nuvango.
3D printing is one of the niche skills Hillary has from her time working at Iris van Herpen and led her to pursue a course at NYU Polytechnic in partnership with Eyebeam. The project she created entitled “Poseidon”, a 3D printed garment designed in one piece comprised of 800 interconnected and movable pieces, was displayed at Dutch Design Week in 2014 and several galleries in New York City.
Conni has always been passionate about the creative arts, playing instruments as a child and getting her foot in the door in the acting world interning at a talent agent in LA as a teenager. She started her fashion career in her coastal hometown of Halifax, finding herself reworking thrifted clothes as a hobby and creative outlet. This hobby quickly turned into something more, starting her first brand, Second Chance; a clothing line salvaging pre-owned clothing and fabric.
In 2011 Conni pursued a degree in Fashion Design at Collège LaSalle in Montréal specializing in Womenswear. While in her first year at fashion school she started a new line called Zafira, putting her school projects up for sale on Etsy, and leading to the debut collection launch in 2012. Graduating in 2013, she moved back to Halifax where she pursued Zafira full-time building an online presence and holding pop up shops throughout Atlantic Canada. As the Zafira brand grew, Conni made the decision to move to Toronto in 2015, exploring wholesale opportunities and gaining recognition for her design work in the growing metropolis. Conni started at Nuvango in 2015 as a design intern, quickly making herself an invaluable part of the team and was hired on as an associate fashion designer. Conni currently manages product development and helps lead a team of designers.
